Wagin

Wagin is a town 227kms.S.E.of Perth on the Southern H'Way, administrative centre for a large agricultural area producing grains and sheep.The 'Wagin Woolarama' is an annual two day agricultural show with the main accent on wool production and products;it is the largest show held outside the Perth area. The Memorial is sited near to the Showgrounds on the road that until recently was the main entrance to the Town,at the back of the site is a swimming pool constructed as a WW 2 Memorial.The front of the monuments' diestone is inscribed "lest we forget,at the setting of the sun and in the morning we will remember them" below this are incised sixtythree names followed by the following inscription" Erected by the residents of Wagin and District in memory of those who fell in the Great War 1914 to 1918" On the left hand face of the die stone is inscribed "Lest We Forget"below which twentyfive names are shown followed by "World War 1939 to 1945" The capstone is ornately carved and bears,at the front, a copper Australian Army 'Rising Sun' emblem whilst the other three sides bear copper wreaths,the broken column is of polished granite and stands some 4m.tall. Overall the workmanship is of a very high standard.
