Tammin

Tammin is a small town on the Gt.Eastern H'Way 162kms.East of Perth and serves as an administrative centre for an area engaged in the grains and sheep industries.The Memorial site is for WW 2 and subsequent conflicts and is sited in what was the main street before the building of the road bypass.These memorial gates comprise one large and one smaller brick column on each side of the gates. On the left hand side the smaller column bears a plaque commemorating the Vietnam war and bears three names one of which is shown as killed in action.The larger column bears a plaque in memory of those who served in WW 2 which bears one hundred and eleven names,including nine women,who served. Five men are shown as killed in action. On the right hand side the main column bears a granite slab inscribed "These Gates were erected by the citizens of the Tammin District in honour of all those who served in World War 1939-45". The lesser column bears a plaque commemorating the 50th.anniversary of World War 2. Within the gates is a small park containing tables and seats and a barbecue. Tammin has no street Memorial for WW1 but Honour Boards giving the names of all who served in that conflict hang in the Town Hall.
