This small town lies 60km.East of Katanning in the Shire of Kent,the main industries of the shire are grains and sheep. The memorial comprises a small park called "Memorial Playground" (spelt out on the entrance gates) which contains play equipment ,shelter,drinking fountain, flagpole and a barbecue,all recently constructed.Walls on either side of the entrance bear a marble plaque;the right hand one reads "These trees have been planted and dedicated to the sacred memory of our heroes who fell in the Great War 1914 to 1918,the price for our honour and liberty" below 16 names are shown, Including A.E.Gaby VC* and A.C.Jones MM, followed by " Greater love hath no man"(the trees referred to were planted after WW1 in the main street, one for every fallen soldier. Each tree had a small plaque bearing the name of the soldier it is dedicated to. The original trees still exist and may be seen adjacent to the Shire Office)The plaque on the left bears "This memorial has been dedicated to the sacred memory of our heroes who fell in World War Two" ten names are shown.The town also has Honour Boards for WW1(77 names)& WW2(79 men & 7women), they can be seen HERE in th Honour Board Section.
*Lt.Alfred Edward Gaby, 28th.Battalion, 7th.Brigade, 2nd.Division won his Victoria Cross for "conspicuos gallantry and dash in attack" on 8th.August,1918 East of Villiers- Brettoneux, France when,on his own,he captured a machinegun post containing four guns and fifty enemy that were holding up the advance of his men who were then able to capture their objective. Three days later,in the same area he was killed by sniper fire whilst encouraging his men who were under intense fire.
