Bakers Hill
A small village on Great Eastern Highway between Perth and Northam,the surrounding area mainly comprises small holdings pursuing various types of agriculture.Bakers hill residents served in most campaigns from the Boer to Vietnam wars but it was not until March 2001that,with a $3800.00 grant from the Australian Govt., a Memorial was built on the old school site (1898-1952). The plaque reads ' In memory of those who served during times of Australian conflict-Lest we forget' The dedication ceremony was attended by a large crowd including children from the Primary School and Northam Army and Navy Cadets,Federal Govt.representatives including Judy Moylan MP,Northam Mayor, President Northam RSL and Anglican and Catholic churches and the Salvation Army. The Requiem was delivered by Allan Brockman and the Ode by Allan Hutcheson JP,Last Post was played by Mike Watts.
