Cranbrook

373kms SE of Perth on the Gt.Southern Highway,Cranbrook is the administrative centre for a mixed farming community. The Memorial is in the main street directly opposite the Memorial Hall, the front is inscribed "Lest we forget those who fell in the Great War 1914 - 1918" eighteen names are shown further down,mounted on the base stone is a granite slab inscribed " Second World War 1939 - 45" fifteen names are shown. Above the die stone,affixed to the Obelisk is a brass plate reading " Dedicated to those who served in S.E.Asian Forces 1950 to 1971" . The wall at the rear bears steel memorial plates that were originally sited in front of specially planted memorial trees,there are thirtythree plates;one each for those who died in WW1 and WW2.Three of the WW2 plates refer to men who died as Prisoners of War in Thailand.
