Bridgetown
On the South West Highway 267kms.South of Perth,the town is the administrative center for the Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire and has a population of about 2017. In the past it was heavily involved in logging the surrounding forests, today,however, the emphasis is on plantation timber. The Memorial stands in Memorial Park located on the corner of Hampton St. and Lockley Avenue and is some 8m.tall, the main feature is a life size bronze bas-relief figure sculpted by Gordon Holdsworthy(b UK 1886,d WA 1965)of an Australian soldier mounted on the column which is topped by a metal laurel wreath. The front of the die stone bears a large brass plate embossed with a wreath and bearing the words "Lest We Forget", on the R/H side is a plaque recording the names of those killed in action in WW2 (A.I.F.,16 men and RAAF,3 men ) whilst the L/H side has a plaque concerning those killed in WW1, 46 names are recorded. The base stone is inscribed " This stone was laid by His Excellency Sir Francis Newdegate KCMG November 11th. 1922"
