Victoria Park

 

Opposite Perth on the other side of the Swan River,Victoria Park is one of the older suburbs of the city with the main road to Albany running through it;Albany H'way. The Memorial is in a small park fronting the Highway in the shopping area with the main entrance off the Highway,it comprises a stone cross at the base of which is a plaque reading" In rememberance of Victoria Park citizens who gave their lives in the cause of freedom 1914 - 1918,1939 - 1945 We Will Remember Them' the Memorial bears no other inscriptions. The marble plaque on the right hand entrance pillar is in memory of John Hushton JP,Chairman of the Memorial Committee who died 10th.August,1917.The original Memorial was a statue of a soldier by P.Porcelli which was vandalised beyond repair a few years after it was installed.
