South Perth

A suburb of Perth directly opposite the CBD across the Swan River. The war Memorial is located on the corner of Labouchere Rd. and Angelo St. and comprises a half circular wall enclosing a plinth on which is mounted a trench mortar,a brass plate affixed to the back of the plinth reads " German 170mm Trench Mortar captured in France by 16th.Battalion A.I.F." The front of the pedestal bears a bronze plaque bearing the badge of the A.I.F below which is a banner "Our Glorious Dead" followed by twelve names. On both the left and right hand sides are sited bronze wreaths above bronze tablets which under the caption "Addenda" bear two names each. Both ends of the enclosing wall terminate in low stone pillars on which are mounted wrought iron lamp standards whilst the front of each pillar bears a bronze wreath,one enclosing the date '1914' and the other '1918'.In front of the pedestal on a low concrete block is a brass plate reading " This Memorial was dedicated in November,1923". In 2005 the Memorial was renovated and to mark the event the South Perth Returned Services League held a commerative service there on Sunday November 13th., 2005; relatives of the sixteen men named on the Memorial were invited to attend.

In 2001 the South Perth local Govt. Authority built the Memorial shown below in a park adjacent to the Civic Centre on the corner of Sandgate St. & South Terrace
