LEEDERVILLE

Leederville is a suburb in the Metropolitan area next to Perth City. The Memorial,designed by P.Porcelli,is in Cambridge St.in a rose garden adjacent to the Leederville Town Hall,a plaque on the front reads

"Erected by the residents of Leederville to the sacred memory of the heroes who enlisted from this District and fell in the War 1914-1918"

below twentyeight names are inscribed,followed by a marble plaque recording that Sir Francis Newdegate,Govenor of Western Australia, unveiled the Memorial on May 25th.,1924 below which,on the plinth stone ,is a large bronze plaque honouring those who fell in WW2,Korea,Malaya,Borneo and Vietnam;individual names are not shown. On the base is a marble plaque "Let Silent Contemplation be your offering". Marble plaques affixed to the other three sides of the die stone bear a total of 100 names. Buttresses comprising two granite blocks are mounted at all four corners, each bears the figure of a Lion whilst the front of the top block of each buttress is adorned with a brass shield with peirced lettering in a florid style 'Gallipoli','France','Belgium','Palestine' (shown above)
