Vietnam Memorial Pavilion
The building was originally the Chapel at Karrakatta Barracks from where it was dismantled and erected on it's present site in May Road, Kings Park as an open sided Pavilion. At the end opposite the main entrance is a gated alcove containing black polished Marble Honour Boards on which are inscribed the names of the sixtyone West Australian servicemen who died in Vietnam. A Memorial Service is held here every August 18th., the anniversary of the Long Tan battle. On the 7th.December,2002 a monument devised and paid for by the Republic of Vietnam Veterans Assn.of W.A was unveiled by Dr. Geoff Gallop,Premier W.A. The monument comprises cast bronze figures of an R.O.V. and Australian soldier standing side by side on a polished stone base which bears the dedication, R.O.V.Forces badge and badges of the three Australian Services. The sculptor was Mr.Khoat Van Nguyen.
