Situated on high land overlooking Perth City and The Swan River,Kings Park contains many War Memorials plus a number of memorial avenues where each of the roadside trees bears a plaque honouring an individual killed in WW1 or 2. The main, and State Memorial, is situated on a bluff overlooking the Swan River and was designed by Sir Talbot Hobbs, it stands thirty feet high with an undercroft at the rear. The cost of six thousand pounds was raised by public subscription, and the completed Memorial was unveiled by the Govenor Sir William Campion in November,1929 before a crowd of some 9,000 people. In 1954 a half circular walled garden with plaques commerating battles in which Australian forces participated was established in front of the Memorial and opened by Queen Elizabeth. Within the undercroft are marble tablets inscribed with the names of those killed in WW1 whilst the exterior walls bear brass plaques recording the names of those who died in WW2
