This Memorial(designed by P.Porcelli with Thomas
Anthoness as Honorary Architect)is on the L/H side of Fraser
Avenue just past the entrance to the State Memorial,on top of the
column is a copper ball surmounted by the Star of David.It
honours members of the Jewish faith who served and died in WW1
& WW2, Fortythree names are shown for WW1 and Eight for WW2.A
plaque at the base of the Memorial records that the Foundation
Stone was laid by Lt.General Sir John Monash ,General Officer
Commanding, Australian Corps.in France, Perth 19th.December,1919.
The completed Memorial, at a cost of £609.18.9d.,was dedicated
by the Govenor, Sir Francis Newdegate on the 6th.June 1920 with
the unveiling being performed by Rabbi David Freedman* of the Perth
Hebrew Congregation. The plaque recording the names of those who
lost their lives in WW2 was unveiled in 1953 by the Governor, Sir
Charles Gairdener who took the salute at a march past of 120
Jewish ex-servicemen led by Captain Robert Gee VC. Rabbi Louis
Rubin-Zacks* conducted the dedication ceremony. In 2005 the
column had become unsteady so the Memorial was dismantled,
repaired and re-erected; a rededication ceremony was held in
March 2007. This War Memorial was the first one to be erected in
Western Australia following WW1 and the second to be erected in
Kings Park; the first being the Boer War Memorial.
