Kelmscott

Kelmscott is a suburb of Perth 28kms.from the GPO straddling the Albany & Brookton H'ways,the Memorial is located in Rushton Park corner of River Rd.& Orlando St.with the front facing River Rd.The foundation stone was laid by Maj.Gen.Sir Talbot Hobbs KCB,KCMC,VD on 21st.May,1921,the front of the die stone is inscribed "1914 Lest We Forget 1919, A Record of those from Kelmscott,Roleystone & Karagullen who volunteered and served in the Great War for the Liberty of the World" and below this are shown 26 names followed by "This Memorial was unveiled by His Excellency Sir Francis Newdegate,KC,MC Govenor of Western Australia on 29th.May,1921". The lefthand side bears 30 names of which six are shown as killed in action,on the righthand side are inscribed 31 names with 4 shown as killed in action including a Nursing Sister. The rear of the die stone bears the inscripton"Killed in Action 1939-45" with 5 names shown, below are mounted two brass plaques,one in in honour of those who served in WW2 and the other honouring those who served in Malaya,Korea,Borneo and Vietnam
