Gosnells

This town is some twenty kilometres from Perth on the Albany Highway,the monument is located on a small hill within the extensive gardens surrounding the Shire Offices. The traditional obelisk is made of granite and stands on a square granite die stone some 2m high, it is approached by a pathway lined with red and white rose bushes. The front of the die stone of the monument is engraved "This Memorial was unvailed(sic)by His Excellency Sir Francis Newdegate KCMG,Govenor of Western Australia on 6th.November,1921.The foundation stone of this Memorial was laid by the Honourable W.J.George CMG,MLA on 24th.April,1921" Above this is engraved " This Monument is erected to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers from the Gosnells Road Board District who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War 1914 to 1919 and whose names appear hereon" . Above this is engraved the A.I.F sunburst badge above which is inscribed the following "Erected to perpetuate the memory of the men who made the supreme sacrifice in the 2nd.World War 1939 to 1945,Korean War 1950 to 1953". On the righthand side of the die stone are engraved sixteen names with same number on the left hand side,on the rear face are engraved eight names with,below them,a brass plaque commemorating the 50th.anniversary of the end of World War 2. The bottom part of the obelisk is of slightly different proportion to the rest and bears the inscription (This stone was added by the Gosnells Shire Council to commemorate the 50th.anniversary of Anzac Day)
