Claremont,a suburb of Perth,straddles the Stirling Highway between Perth and Fremantle.The Memorial is located on the corner of Stirling Highway and Bayview Terrace,a site selected at a public meeting with a design that was to be an "historical landmark". The project was undertaken by the Claremont Council and Soldiers Memorial Committee with costs to be met by public subscription,to this end a flyer headed "Claremont Fallen Soldiers Memorial Fund"was distributed to all ratepayers containing a message from the Mayor as follows: Residents of Claremont are asked to show in a practical manner their gratitude to the brave men who gave their lives in the defence of Home and Empire. Many to-day lie in Gallipoli, in Palestine,in Flanders fields amidst the desolation in which they died. Some returning broken from the fight rest beneath the Sunny Skies of their Southern Homeland. Let us remember them all,not only in our hearts but in a fitting memorial that shall speak to the future of the brave deeds and noble sacrifice of those who have gone.readers were advised that Ladies would be collecting door to door on Thursday 4th.August. The Memorial Foundation Stone was laid 24th.December,1922,the final cost was six hundred and seventyeight Pounds of which twenty Pounds was given by the Claremont Council,in the 1990s the Memorial was renovated by the Town of Claremont at a cost of ten thousand Dollars. The main part of the structure is four sided and bears white marble plaques on all sides, apart from the inscription quoted,the other plaques bear inscriptions of a general nature;names of individual servicemen are not shown
