Coolgardie was established in 1893 following a gold discovery in the area in 1892, thousands of would-be miners walked the 557kms. from Perth but the alluvial workings were exhausted within a few years and by 1900 most people were moving to Kalgoorlie 34 kms.further East, Today the population is about 1060. The Memorial is sited in a small garden alongside what, in the goldrush days, was the Marvel Bar Hotel and now the H.Q. of the RSL Sub-Branch. A Plaque on the Memorial reads:
"This Memoral was opened on the 12th.February,1984 by E.E.Davis,President Coolgardie Returned Services League"
