Boulder
Boulder is 600kms.East of Perth and was established in the late 1800s when gold was found in the area shortly after the gold discovery a few kilometres away at Kalgoorlie. Over the years the expansion of both towns has seen them merge into each other and are now known as the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The Memorial, designed and constructed by Pietro Porcelli, stands in a park outside the Boulder Railway Station (no longer used as such) and is inscribed,on the front:
"Lest WE Forget"
"This Monument was donated by David C. Donaldson Esq.* and is erected in gratitude to the Goldfields Heroes who participated in the Great War 1914 to 1919 and in ever loving memory of those who died for Australia and the Empire. Their bodies are buried in peace but their names liveth for evermore"
"DULCE ET DECORUM ES PRO PATRIA MORI"
Below is a small tablet recording that the Monument was unveiled by Major General Sir Talbot Hobbs on 27th. July,1920
*David C. Donaldson owned a Hotel in Boulder, his only son,who enlisted under age, was wounded in action and subsequently died of his wounds. when found on the battlefield his hat was missing thus the Memorial figure is without a hat, it was also sited to face towards the Hotel.(information courtesy K.Evershed)
