Mount Magnet

Located some 570kms from Perth on th Great Northern Highway, the town was established in the 1890s when gold was discovered in the area. For a time Mt.Magnet experienced a boom period but as the alluvial gold deposits were exhausted the population declined. Today the population numbers some 1200 persons with gold still being mined but now by the open cut method. The Memorial, of polished granite, stands in a fenced off area alongside the Mt.Magnet Anzac Memorial Hall on the corner of Hepburn and Richardson St. and bears two plaques both recording that the Memorial is dedicated to those who served thier country
